RE: leaking roof

Took it to the dealer, Cross Country, Ocala, yesterday where the Tech(?) spent an hour walking the roof looking for rips or holes and applied Dicor around every vent and opening. I showed the shower stall problem to the manager who said he would talk to the service manager and get me an 'estimate' for repairs. NO WAY will I pay for the repairs for a problem that they were aware of and NO WAY will I go back to them or even recommend them. Guess I'll find out if the leak was fixed next week when they call for scattered t-storms. Had e-mailed Carriage and after giving them the VIN number they replied that the RV was sold 5 years and 1 month ago so the warranty has expired. Then their Roger Steickle(?) had the gall to ask if I had any more questions. Phrased in a way that sounded like they were not very interested.

RE: Wireless Broadband Internet for Full Time Worker

Went back to Millenicom until this past Friday. Wireless Broadband Modem went out 20th of October. Contacted Millenicom and was told that they had problems in my area which somehow messed up everything and they were going to send me a replacement out over night delivery. After 1 week and no replacement modem, I called Millenicom who told me the modem was sent out and they gave me my old address as where it was sent to. Called my mail forwarding co and told them to send it back as refused. Called Millenicom and explained that they had sent it to the wrong address. They had my correct address and said they would sent me another also overnight delivery. One week later, same thing, wrong address. Again called Millenicom last Monday morning and was assured that another one would be sent out that very afternoon. Well, Nothing in the mail Wed or Thurs so I called Millenicom and told them that I was canceling my contract and wanted my payment reimbursed due to not being able to use the modem for almost 3 weeks. Was told that refund will be given when they receive the modem back. Friday saw a new replacement shipped out Wednesday, NOT Monday as they had assured me it was to have been shipped out. Told PO to send it back as refused. Had to get a new cell phone provider as T-Mobil was useless where I am and went for Alltel for both cell and internet usage. So far it seems to be faster than the Broadband modem and I have yet to be disconnected during calls. And it cost me $30 a month less than Millenicom.

RE: leaking roof

Gunpilot77,
How much damage was there to the roof area? Just got my first RV, an 06 Cameo 2 months ago. After getting home, I found papers with the previous owners name and number. Gave them a call to inquire as to any possible problems. Was informed that they bought it used and they traded it in after they found that it had a bad leak somewhere around the skylight in the shower stall. Said dealer was made aware of it. Called the salesman and was told an hour later that it was a different 5'ver with the leak not mine. Well, I found out yesterday when we had heavy rain that the roof does leak (about 1/4 teaspoon of water) and the wall hear the ceiling was all spongy. After I cut away some of the wall above the enclosure, I found most of the wood all rotted away. Not sure if the dealer will cover the repairs as it was sold 'AS IS' with a 30 day warranty, which has already passed. Nor am I sure if that would be covered under the manfacturers 5 year Structural warranty. The 2 RV warranty programs offer by the dealer when I made the purchase did not cover roof repairs.

RE: Old adhesive removal

I just read the reply about a 15 year old roof warranty. Recently purchased a used 2004 Cameo which had 1 or 2 previous owners. Does the warranty cover only the original owner? Reason for my asking is that since purchasing the 5'ver, I experienced the first hard rain today and found the skylight over the shower leaking. Dealer said their warranty was only for 30 days. Did find paper work with the name of the last owner who said that the only reason they rid of the Cameo was due to the leak which the dealer was informed about. Have 2 tubes of Dico Lap Sealant 501 LSW that I hope to be able to apply after getting the older sealant around the skylight removed.

RE: mold problems in sw florida?

Not sure but I'd sure like to know and also find out about removing mold in the ceiling of the shower area. I purchased a used 5ver that I will pick up this Friday from the dealer. Have since talked to the previous owner who said they traded it in for a new RV due to mold in the ceiling. They also said they had told the dealer about the mold problem. Problem stemed from a leaking skylight over the shower.

RE: 5th Wheel Wannbe Advice

Got a question on getting a used fifth wheeler. If a dealers web ad says that RV is LOADED, just what is considered LOADED? W/D ready, No TV or Stereo or some other items listed on Factory installed sheet? Most dealers will not make or have the previous owners records available until AfTER the sale is finalized or say that ad must be another salesman's ad. What recourse would a buyer have?

RE: High Test gas gets MUCH better MPG

I think Federal Law now mandates the GARBAGE GAS. Years back when they had REAL GAS, most people would use the cheaper gas and once every so often fill up with Ammaco Premium (white gas) for a long ride just to help clean the carbon deposits. Still works the same on the new engines. I normally burn regular BP in my 06 8.1 ltr 4:10 rear and 85 PSI (max) all 4 tires. Average around 8-9 MPG in cruise at 60. After filling with Premium, MPG goes up to 12-13. Stays that way on LONG hauls for about 10 tank fulls after switching back to regular. Mobile gives about the same mileage, 12-13 but the closest Mobile station to me is about 30 miles away. Only choice for me is BP or Chevron, but the Chevron station charges 5 cents more a gallon if you use a credit card other than theirs.

RE: Shut off valve

What way do you turn the valves??? Water heater started to leak over night and the tech can not get here before Saturday. Cold water valve faces down with the lever to the heater. Top Hot water valve came off and I will have to use pliers. To reach the shutoff, I have to streatch inside the side door as there is no closer access.

Water Heater

Got a question. Which direction do you turn the petcock on a water heater bypass? Cold water in Petcock is facing down with the lever facing towards the heater. Hot water out had fallen off. Need to bypass the heater as it has started to leak and can not get a replacement for a few days.

RE: computers

I was using Millenicom Wireless Broadband until today. When I first got the service it took about a dozen calls to Tech Support to get it up and running. Last month they increased their charges to $60 a month. Since then I have been having nothing but problems. Dropped connections and slow downloads, slower than dial-up. Past few days have not been able to get the modem to work. Mailed and had direct contact with their support techs who feel that the problem is with the Franklin Modem. They still have to submit their problems to the main headquarters in Oregon who have to contact Sprint, who will then reply to Oregon then cack to Tech Support in Georgia. Even though I'm less than 50 foot from the WiFi antenna at the RV Resort, my connection is VERY LOW but still better than no connection at all.

RE: What does everyone do during normal days?

Been retired 8 years. Got bored first 8 months and went out and got a job where I was able to set my own hours. Also took up racing 1/4 scale RC cars before moving down to Florida. Recently took up flying RC Helicopters to keep eye/hand and brain(?) coordination working. Now I got to get a larger heli since these old eyes are having a hard time seeing the Heli more than 50 feet away. Golf is too much like work even though I reside at a RV & Golf Resort. Might take up alligator hunting next year just to pass a few evening hours away.

RE: Wireless Broadband Internet for Full Time Worker

I was using Millenicom Wireless Broadband for internet until today. Since Milliencom raised their rates last month, my connections have been getting slower and slower, plus getting dropped connections. Found out that Milleincom tech sends all problems to their main HQ in Oregon who then sends it to Sprint. Sprint will respond when they feel like responding. NOT a way to keep customers or get new customers.

RE: What does everyone do during normal days?

If you get a dog that sheds, make sure that the dog also goes crazy when it hears thunder. Not to hide but begging to go out for a walk. Especially when you have to go out in heavy rain, lightening, thunder and wind. OK, so I have a wacky dog who paws the air, snorts, coughs, barks and stares you down until you get up and take her out. Walk maybe 100 feet, sits down, stares at the sky and waits until she hears the 3-4 clap of thunder then gets up and SLOWLY makes her way back to the tailer. The nastier the weather, the slower she walks, smelling every danged blade of grass on the way back. If you are really, really lucky, you can even get to stand outside during a hurricane ducking the flying tree branches and roof shingles.

RE: What is important when looking for a campground?

Try Not being 20+ miles away from the nearest store, gas station or bank. That is unless you are just weekending it and carry a weeks supply plus of your needs. One other very important consideration is cell phone coverage. If you can get a good reading on your phone before registering that is helpful. I'm in a fringe area for t-mobile and can only use my phone if I am outside the trailer. Same goes for internet access.
Fishing access is also important. Next year I will find a place with fishing access, the closer the better.
